Fresno Writers Summit
Each fall, in collaboration with the Fresno Poets’ Association reading series, the
chapter produces the day-long Fresno Writers Summit to celebrate new books by Fresno
State alumni authors. The summit also includes a Creative Writing Prize Showcase,
which features award-winning student writers. There’s readings, book signings, and
time for meeting and greeting with fellow members of the Fresno writing community.
Readings and Salons
The chapter hosts literary readings and salons throughout the year, with open-call
sign ups for participants. The readings feature alumni, future alumni, and community
friends, all who have deep interest in the Fresno writing community. The salons feature
chapter organizers who facilitate generative writing workshops, discussions on current
writing trends, and roundtables on professional development in writing and publishing

The Creative Writing Alumni Chapter is proud to champion the Larry Levis Memorial
Scholarship, which directly supports a graduate student in the university’s Master
of Fine Arts program in creative writing. From 2019 to 2023 — through a unique five-year crowdfunding campaign, The Fresno 15 Creative Writing Marathon — the chapter raised $26,238 in gifts big
and small from 159 community donors. The collective effort will provide an annual
endowed scholarship to an MFA student in perpetuity.

Larry Levis Memorial Scholarship in Creative Writing
Since its founding in 2016, the Creative Writing Alumni Chapter set a goal to establish
a student scholarship, as a way for alumni writers to give back to current students.
With an initial gift from the university’s Master of Fine Arts program, the chapter
established the Larry Levis Memorial Scholarship. The chapter signed a gift agreement
with the Alumni Association in 2019 and endowed the scholarship in 2024. Endowment
earnings will provide an annual scholarship to an MFA student in perpetuity.
